RULES

These works are my way of sharing the balance I've found in life with those who would seek it.

They are also a response.

My generation has a lack of freedom imposed by a world with a climate crisis and collapsing economy. We have identity crisis where each group feels discriminated against. These works celebrate the Truth with a capital T without denying personal truth.

We need RULES we can agree upon. Within these, we can and must find ways to feel freedom and celebrate creativity in the trying times ahead.

There is a universal appreciation of beauty and colour throughout all life that the RULES engage with.

Exploring colour, shape, balance and our very concept of reality, they are a beacon of hope.

While always maintaining that the paintings themselves must reflect the beauty of our existence, these works express the balance of 3

Birth, Life, Death

Start, Journey, Destination

Side, Bridge, Other Side

Three RULES correspond:

1: Equal parts black and white: nature is duality

2. There is white in the black and black in the white

3. The rainbow depicted with two shades of blue

Conceptually, each RULES is the same. But, for each work the process of making is unique. Some are preconceived visions, executed with due care. Others are made through a process of organic evolution. While others still are a flush of creation.

If we acknowledge our own misperceptions, then we can be more compassionate to others and unite in commonalities instead of divide in differences.
